Why coating technology is so crucial

Time and again, customers ask us about products for a potential coating line. We usually answer that we offer products, too, but that we generally develop processes. That is to say: At Venjakob, we don't have a production line that creates a specific number of coating systems each year. We design customized systems for customers and their specific requirements. Each of these systems is based on the experience gained throughout the past sixty years – and therefore on our knowledge of the best coating technology for each task.

The different functions of a coating

Coatings play an important role in protecting products mechanically against friction or wear. Sometimes they serve as a barrier, for example to ensure corrosion resistance or thermal insulation. Other coating technologies are used to improve electrical conductivity, or else for the opposite: for electrical insulation. Then there are surfaces and materials on which the coating has an optical function – be it for reflection, absorption or simply for decoration. And finally, certain coatings are all about the interaction between contact surfaces. Issues such as paintability, wettability or biocompatibility play a role in those cases. Depending on the industry, company and products, the focus is sometimes on one set of requirements for the application process and sometimes on another. This makes it all the more important for us at Venjakob to focus on systems and processes, not on products.
